Nutrition

Nutrition is one of FYO's priority areas- Our aim is to fight malnutrition and hunger by encouraging food security and improving household nutrition to ensure that the most vulnerable children and women especially orphans and widows from poor families have access to sufficient nutritious foods they need for good health.

We pursue mainly long-term solutions to malnutrition/hunger-Our programs mainly focus on improving agricultural production and nutrition education.

We mobilize communities and partner with organizations and relevant ministries to prevent food insecurity. We continue to raise funds to support the community-based programs that promote food security.

Regarding household nutrition, we employ self- help approaches through nutrition education programs'. Many families in the rural areas are unable to respond to their members' nutrition needs because of lack nutrition knowledge -some families are malnourished despite the existence of food security. The nutrition education program helps families help themselves. This program helps poor families caring for orphans especially in urban areas help themselves by teaching them how to prepare healthy low-cost meals.

FYO is looking for more nutritionists to volunteer their time, talents and skills (knowledge) to lead hands-on courses that teach women and children from poor families how to get the most nutrition out of a limited budget.

Uganda being a developing country, many families caring for orphans are poor and this puts orphans at a risk of being abandoned. FYO has designed programs that can provide relief in terms of foodstuffs to poor families caring for orphans in urban areas.

  • Make a donation to support nutrition education programs and also for relief in terms of foodstuffs.
  • Volunteer your talents.
