Mothers, Women and Girls Empowerment Program

FYO's economic empowerment program targets women of very low economic status in both rural and urban areas. By targeting these women, we are ensuring the impact on the children they care for especially orphans. Many poor women are unable to respond to the needs of the children they care for because of lack of resources and knowledge. The program aims to alleviate poverty through sustained solutions that improve the economic and social well-being of the most underprivileged women and orphaned children.

The program has several focus areas:

The program aims at eliminating women's negative attitude towards income generating activities. A dedicated outreach is put in place to serve especially the hard to reach populations at the grass root to sensitize widows/women with the noble purpose of promoting the creating, expanding, strengthening, stimulating and co-coordinating income generating activities with the overall objective of reducing poverty and improving socio-economic conditions of families especially those caring for orphans and orphans.

This program is also intended to provide widows/women caring for orphans and girls with the practical skills they need to lead full, productive lives in order to better support themselves and the children they care for.

Under this program, we also support the initiatives of women caring for orphans to fight poverty in their households such as agriculture, poultry, crafts, etc by providing one time grants to support/establish income generating projects with the aim of improving the conditions of orphans and widows of under served rural communities.

FYO helps poor rural women caring for orphans raise income by marketing their produce and commodities to the urban centers. FYO wishes to increase their income by marketing their produce and commodities overseas. Produce can be shipped out and through this activity jobs for older illiterate orphans seeking employment can be directly created. Indirectly, jobs can be created for the poor women in the rural areas. The capability of the women to care for their own families and additional orphaned children would be increased with higher profits. The women would be able to respond more readily to the needs of the orphans.

You can help FYO market the produce and commodities of poor rural families caring for the orphans.

Under this empowerment program we run Widows' /Women Empowerment scheme –“ Katukole women empowerment scheme ( KWES) ”: The husband is the traditional breadwinner in a Ugandan family especially in rural areas, and if he passes away or anything disrupts his income his family might be left to suffer from poverty.

This empowerment scheme is there fore set to remove the total dependency of a family on relatives after the bread winner has died, or engaging in high risk behavior among other problems, by linking widows to small entrepreneurial activities such as farming and other innovative activities that generate income. KWES is a highly effective empowerment enrichment program for Women/widows. Formed through a partnership between FYO, the local community groups, the program currently has a total enrollment of 124 women, and it has been sustained by the membership fees paid by the organization's members, well wishers and income got from some of its activities. We also facilitate other women' interaction clubs to encourage sharing innovative ideas and creativity.

You can help FYO in its efforts to ensure that needy orphans and the families that care for them are free from poverty.
