Health Care

We work in partnership with Ministries, local and international non-governmental organizations, donors and local communities to improve the quality of health care especially in the rural areas. We encourage use of key health practices and services and address the causes of poor health. Our priority health program areas include HIV/AIDS, adolescent sexual reproductive health, and community health (mitigation of malaria and other diseases), building the capacity of rural communities in their efforts/initiatives towards improvement of sanitation and hygiene among others.

Rural areas are lacking adequate health services and health awareness. FYO carries out rural health awareness activities in villages. Health awareness activities are carried out at the community level, to schools and at personal level with individual counseling and home visits. FYO trains community based representatives to continue the work in the villages.

HIV/AIDS Program

Uganda is at the heart of the sub-Saharan HIV/AIDS pandemic. According to recent UNAIDS statistics Uganda is home to more than 1 million AIDS orphans. Widowed mothers and elderly widowed grandmothers are the predominant heads of households ( www.unaids.org ). Access to medical care is nonexistent for many Ugandans where almost half the population lives in absolute poverty ( www.unicef.org ).

Our Care Program

Currently, we are supporting AIDS orphans in Muliira Village in Kampala District. Our care program involves making home visits during which we provide both individual and group/family therapy to the orphans and other members of their families. Every weekend, we also organize group counseling and guidance sessions for the orphans at our offices or any other convenient site for such activities

FYO plans to improve its clinic and pharmacy in Kampala . With a nurse, clinical worker, and part-time doctor, certain medical services, HIV screening and counseling will be available at the clinic and pharmacy.

Since rural areas are severely lacking in HIV/AIDS services and awareness. FYO operates a mobile clinic to provide limited medical services in different villages. With the mobile clinic, FYO provides limited medical services, offers counseling, and provides home-based care for people suffering with HIV/AIDS.

The trained community- based representatives follow-up with counseling and needs to those whose HIV screenings return positive. They provide medical and counseling assistance to those with AIDS in their homes. Community–based representatives train relatives and friends in home-based care for those in the late stages of AIDS to administer the type of care such patients require.
